Barrage Fishing At Shady Camp 2009

by Wendy Pieterman
(Port Lincoln, sa)

Fell in love with SHADY CAMP the minuate I got there. We stayed at PT Stewart Wildiness Lodge in our caravan for 10 days and spent each day at SHADY CAMP.

We were so lucky as we got all the right tides.Just loved fishing of the barrage, watching all the crocodiles, jabiru, sea eagles and much more.We took our lunch each day and if we weren,t fishing would sit with a cup of tea and just take in this wonderful part of the world.

Thank goodness it has not been hit with bus loads of tourists.

I caught 5 barra from 65cm to 85cm.As we could only keep 2 in our freezer we had barra feast every night.
Hopefully we can go back next year.

Well in 2 weeks time I leave Pt Lincoln sa to go back to shady camp to go fishing.I just hope it will be as exciting as in 2009.This time we are going to camp there so are well prepared for the mosquitos (I hope). My biggest fish last time was 85cm of the barrage. This time I will be happy with anything.I just love it there ,one of natures best places.

spot on choice of fishing spot

great locality wendy, my son and i spent a delightful few hours catching and releasing barra their on my birthday a couple of years ago.
as you say plenty of bird life, friendly crocs including one very large curious one.
do you fish there at night? my NT based son says not uncommon for people to fish at night ignoring warning signs about the crocs.
hope to see you there in the future.

Awesome spot

You are so right Wendy, we had the BEST time there fishing with you guy's. Even caught a Barra ourselves. And a few that got away...... One with a Float still in it's mouth......
Awesome fun fishing for Barra, especially amid the croc's. Wonder how Corregated Iron and Silvia are doing?
Spent a few weeks there, enjoyed every minute of it. Can't wait for this years journey up there.

Shady camp amazing
by: Jade

We to took a family holiday in April 2010 to the NT. We stayed 1 night at the Lodge.

We went to Shady Camp to go fishing on the barrage. My husband got out of the car and spoke with a man fishing off the barrage, but after spotting a crocodile in the water, me and our 2 small children decided to watch only from the car!! It was great watching the wildlife, and a stunning sunset.

My husband was not as lucky as you Wendy, he did not catch anything! We also would like to return to Shady Camp for big barra one day!

Anth & Dani's Big Trip Anth & Dani "What an amazing trip, we had tried all types of fishing from rivers, deep channels, poppers, bait fishing, trolling and lure fishing. We were amazed at the variety of fish and beauty of the place. Special thanks to Allan and Heather for their hospitality, we highly recommend Darwin's Barra Base if you are coming to the Territory"
